Madeline and the Gypsies review Ù 103 Madeline and the GypsiesI really loved the costume drawings in this one It was a super fun story but I mean the kids did basically get kidnapped These are probably the only picture books I can read time and time again without growing bored

Madeline and the Gypsies review Ù 103 Madeline and the GypsiesI think that I looked at this a few times when I was a child I remember the main characters' cute harleuin costumes But I don't appreciate it at all now I just can't suspend the disbelief that these children would truly be able to run away with the circus and I'm pretty sure the term 'gypsies' is being used inaccurately and disrespectfully hereThank you to Little Free Libraries for introducing me to books that I never would seen ot

Madeline and the Gypsies review Ù 103 Madeline and the GypsiesI had trouble corralling Sigourney for this story Maybe a 4th Madeline story in two days is too much or at least reduces the awe factor connected with the many colored pictures As always Bemelmans' artwork is beautiful The circus the bus station and my particular favorite the gypsy mama staring into the crystal ball all reveal the artist's giftednessMy only discomfort stemmed from the depiction of the Roma or gypsy people I've read enough about the struggles of the Roma in Europe to avoid stereotypes related to t

Madeline and the Gypsies review Ù 103 Madeline and the GypsiesI think this is too disturbing to be a Madeline type children's book Whether you recognize it or not Madeline has been kidnapped Not a great thing for a child And though the Gypsies are nice should we be exposing our children to the myth that Gypsies are child snatchers
