Kissing in Iceland characters ↠ 7 Kissing in Icelandi stumbled upon this book by pure happenstance just wasting time at work and clicking on random things that looked interesting i've been to iceland loved it so this caught my eye i bought it easily on and discovered that it is really not about iceland some of the poems occur in iceland but it doesn't matter the tales locke spins through her narrators could happen anyplace where there's grit and raw reality this is not the poetry i grew up with made of flowery words cute rhyming phrases and steeped in romanticism here locke breaks the rules generally writing free form and sketches out simple honest and real observations about moments in these narrators lives there's no saccharine here and speaking of simple i found the illustrati

Kissing in Iceland characters ↠ 7 Kissing in IcelandFirst of all I adore the illustrations Their simplicity and sadness so nicely echo the dark things expressed in these poems I think the book would be seriously different and lacking without themI am not a poetry savant I am one of those people who immediately things of something that rhymes and is short More trivial and meaningless Not that poems have nothing to say I just have always been of the naive opinion that poems are too short to have time to express any true deep meaning really only concluding I am far too wordyThese poems are dark and beautiful They are striking and in certain instances disturbing Not in a wow I must put down the book way; but in a pleasant way that makes your heart feel for the narrator and feel a closeness to their pain It changed part of my perspective on poetry and in a great way; making want to seek and dive into a world of reading and writing I have previously neglected Sorry I forgot

Kissing in Iceland characters ↠ 7 Kissing in IcelandUsually poetry is not the kind of literature that I am used to reading Won this book in a good reads giveaway and from the first look I must admit that I fell in love with the illustrations With very few lines drawing a complete picture I find that awesome I liked it that the book I received was signed by the author About the poems later They ask for than just a good glance Finally I got to reading the poems The title Kissing in Iceland was misleading to me I expected about Iceland travellingI think the poetry in this book was kind of raw unpolished in terms of choice of words It differs very much from the poetry I was used to reading when in grammar school that had rhyme rhyt

Kissing in Iceland characters ↠ 7 Kissing in IcelandThe title may sound a bit sentimental but Kissing in Iceland is actually far from gushing Contained within this brief book from Eliza Locke are indeed poetic tales of travel and romance; however be the setting Charlestown or Stockholm the travel itself is overall irrelevant and clouded in correlation to each narrative prose poem and the romance is oftentimes amoral and detached rath

Kissing in Iceland characters ↠ 7 Kissing in IcelandThis collection of poetry can be accurately described as bold raw honest evocative enlightening at times humorous and thoroughly engaging I felt that every poem suggested a much larger deeper story and world I found myself wanting to know about all of the narrators I located this collection on and since reading it I have searched for of her work particularly novels especially a novel based on one of her powerful poems Nothing yet unfortunately Looking forward to a longer workI would recommend Kissing in Iceland to anyone who appreciates contemporary thoughtful poetry This is NOT syrupy rhythm and rhyme style work You should not be disappointed

Kissing in Iceland characters ↠ 7 Kissing in IcelandI found the poems in this book very interesting and I liked the themes and ideas that Eliza Locke used I am not fond of 'long' poems that go on for pages and pages so I enjoyed these which were short and to the point The poems all read well and many are very thought provokingA nice collection for fans of modern poetryFree copy won through Goodreads First Reads

Kissing in Iceland characters ↠ 7 Kissing in IcelandI won this book from Goodreads and I enjoyed it very much as it is the same dark poetry style that my daughter loves to write I think this type of romantic writing is much true then the gushing styles that are so prevalent in romantic poetry I would recommend this to anyone who's had a broken heart
